I like old western movies. They are completely predictable: a group of rag tag villains wreak havoc on a once peaceful town through excessive drunken violence and disrespect toward ladies. This evil ens when a manly man with mean gun skills challenges the villains to a draw and BAM. Just like that, the enemy is on the ground and Mr. Manly Man becomes a hero. This is how almost every Western plays out. Why don’t they get boring to me?
It’s because I like to see at least some men act like men by treating women like women.
I wonder what has happened to such examples of manliness in our current culture. In the good old western days, men would open doors for ladies. This doesn’t seem like a big deal, but it was a chivalrous must for men at that time. Nowadays, men are largely apathetic toward the door-opening situation or even scared to open a door for a woman. This is because of such feminists thoughts as, ” I can do it myself!” ” I am just as strong as you!” or “Don’t treat me like I am weak and can’t open a door!”
Let me tell you this: Men don’t open doors for women because they are women. Men open doors for women because they are men. (and I say this with the most gravely, deep voice as possible.) Men should own their manliness and open doors.
Second, in the good old western days, men would tip their hats to a lady and say something along the lines of “Good evenin’ Ma’am”. As a woman, I really would like to be called “ma’am”. It sounds completely archaic, but it shows respect juxtaposed to an occasional whistle from behind.
Ladies, would you really rather be greeted with a lustful whistle or a wholesome “howdy ma’am”?
Also, men in the Westerns didn’t curse in front of ladies, nor did ladies curse in front of men. Ponder this. When has the “F” word gotten you anywhere? Of greatest importance, men protected women from evil villains in the good old west. They would take a bullet for a lady or talk some sense into a rude drunken dude hitting on an innocent woman. This kind of respect for women has surely lost its gleaming valor in the past few decades. Men just aren’t protecting women from evil.
The materialization and objectification of women is running rampant nowadays and both men and women are the culprits. Women must know how beautiful they are as women and the same goes with men. We can protect each other from evil deeds by acting like true men and true women. This can be a difficult task. How can we attain true manliness and womanliness? Well, encourage men to start opening doors, and women, let them. Greet each other with respect.
These are simple, yet effective actions. They may not be groundbreaking, but they are a good place to start. In a more dynamic scenario, watch more old Western movies. The examples of true men and true women are abundant.
